PROFILE

G+F Associates Ltd. is a Mauritius-based architectural studio founded in 2006 by visionary architects Christophe Gébert and Stéphane Fabre. Both partners graduated as DPLG Architects in 1997 from the École d’Architecture Languedoc-Roussillon in Montpellier, France, before refining their expertise at leading Mauritius-based architectural firms. During this time, they contributed to iconic projects such as the Beau Rivage Hotel, Legends Hotel, Club Med, Preskil Hotel, and the Delphis Bank extension.
The invaluable experience gained from these fast-paced projects provided the partners with an in-depth understanding of local construction dynamics, forming the cornerstone of their own practice.
G+F Associates undertakes a broad spectrum of projects, from residential and commercial developments to hotels, offices, industrial facilities, and masterplans. The firm is especially renowned for its expertise in designing luxury villas and apartments.
OUR VALUES
APPROACH & COMMITMENTS
TO SUSTAINABILITY
Inspiration from the Past
We look to the colonial house as a timeless model of sustainable tropical architecture, guiding our approach with simple yet highly effective solutions. This enduring design paradigm offers valuable insights for contemporary practice, incorporating features such as raised ventilated floors, peripheral verandas, pitched roofs, and dormers for hot air evacuation—essential elements in our pursuit of passive, climate-responsive design.
Understand the Site
A deep understanding of the site’s unique characteristics is fundamental to our sustainable design philosophy. We prioritize preserving natural features such as watercourses, existing vegetation, and scenic vistas. By thoughtfully integrating the topography into our designs, we aim to minimize disruption to the land. In response to the increasing frequency of flash floods driven by climate change and urbanization, we prioritise the development of strategies to manage stormwater flow, including retention ponds, bioswales and green roofs.
Cover the Basics
Sustainability starts with the essentials. Our approach emphasizes natural ventilation and daylighting as key drivers of both environmental and economic efficiency. By carefully considering building orientation and employing passive architectural techniques such as wall and roof insulation, we create energy-efficient designs. We are committed to mastering cross-ventilation and utilizing hot air stacks to ensure comfortable indoor climates. Additionally, we prioritize ease of maintenance and choose materials that support long-term sustainability.
What’s Around the Building?
Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond the walls of the building. We strive to maximize vegetation around our projects, using plants to provide shade and mitigate heat gain. We also prioritize low-radiation surfaces to reduce solar reflection. Believing in the seamless integration of architecture with nature, we design surrounding landscapes—gardens and outdoor spaces—to harmonize with the built environment, creating a cohesive and sustainable setting.
