Les Rives de Courchamps

In March 2016, ENL Properties approached us to develop a Morcellement project at Courchamps, a sugar cane field area set to become a large residential neighborhood. We proposed a complete redesign of the the original master plan to ensure that each plot faced north, with east and west-facing entrances. The resulting Morcellement, was completed in 2017 and stands out for its unique design elements. Asphalt was deliberately avoided in favor of minimal hard surfaces; access roads are made with concrete strips bordered by grass, while vehicles navigate through laybys constructed from rubble and covered with grass. Rather than traditional concrete drains, the roads are designed to channel stormwater towards a nearby natural drain. The entrance was strategically placed to frame a stunning view of Le Pouce mountain, accentuated by an inclined stone wall that evokes the traditional enclosures of sugar cane fields, complemented by an old Bedford truck set in a flower bed.

In parallel, we were tasked with designing the main entrance to the entire Courchamps neighborhood. Instead of an architectural landmark, we proposed a landscaping design featuring two mounds, each planted with rows of grass, separated by parallel gabion walls. This understated design creates a subtle yet distinct identity, drawing inspiration from the orderly rows of sugar cane fields, offering a recognizable and natural entry point to the neighborhood.
